Michael Cera is the same character in every movie. The guy lacks ANY personality whatsoever. If he's pi s s ed off, in love, indifferent, can you tell? Mary Elizabeth Winstead is really hot, but you can't tell that from this movie. She is dressed down and matches Cera's personality. I don't understand how she could have 7 ex-boyfriends period, let alone powerful and evil ones. Her character isn't fun to be around and she doesn't put out, so I just don't get it.<br/><br/>This movie is a hipster wet dream. Horrible bands, check. Gay roommates, check. Main girl constantly dyes her hair and is too cool to hang around anyone, check. The guy from Rushmore, check. Constant Nintendo references, check. Scrawny, nerdy guy beating up people five times his size, check.
I know this movie flopped, and frankly I don't see how the studio thought that this was ever going to be a mass market hit: the target audience is really quite narrow. However, I thought it was warm, heartfelt, and funny, with a nice dose of kick-ass. It helps to know something about the source material and about the video-game references, mostly from the 80s to early 90s. A common criticism leveled at the movie was that the characters were underdeveloped; I think that this was intentional, given the scope of the movie. The characters mostly functionedarchetypes, avatars in a video game. No one expects emotional depth from a video game.<br/><br/>Michael Cera - yes, yes his range is nonexistent - does a nice job with Scott Pilgrim, and displays some more pronounced emotions than he did in the past. His costars outshone him on most occasions, especially Kieran CulkinWallace, Scott's roommate. Snarky wit with more heartfelt undertones - Wallace is undoubtedly my favorite character in the film. Ellen Wong (Knives Chau) invested a very limited character with some depth and real emotion, especially at the close of the film. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers) functionsthe epitome of an object of hipster male desire and adequately fulfills that role, but she wasn't tremendously appealing to me.<br/><br/>The fight scenes were perhaps a little too long, but always very interesting visually. The effects were very well done. The soundtrack was amazing, both the songs and the score and enhanced the action greatly. All in all, the movie was tremendously fun and held my interest throughout. I was very pleased.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley. Six Scott Pilgrim books were first published between 2004 and 2010. The movie's title comes from the second volume of the series but is an adaptation of all six volumes. It's called "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black. "Invaders Must Die" by The Prodigy<br/><br/>The short trailer features the song "Ramona" by Beck.<br/><br/>The full trailer has music by the fictional Sex Bob-Omb and "It's Getting Boring by the Sea" by Blood Red Shoes.<br/><br/>"Black Sheep" by Metric<br/><br/>Beck is playing the role of Sex Bob-omb.<br/><br/>Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are writing the music for rival bands Crash and the Boys. There is an article about the music here. The time span can be surmised by the number of changes in Ramona's hair colour, which she states that she changes "every week and a half". Scott meets Ramona during the last few days of her "pink hair" cycle, before she goes blue for most of the film. She then change's her hair green at the end. The "blue hair" cycle was the only full cycle shown, so the time span of the film is between one and a half to two weeks (three at the most). Another hint to the time span is how Ramona kept mentioning how her relationships also only lasted a week and a half. As such, it can be surmised that a week and a half passed when she breaks up with Scott and returns to Gideon (hence the green hair in her next scene) Based on the landmarks present within the film (Honest Ed's, Lee's Palace, Casa Loma), the film primarily takes place in and around the Annex neighborhood in the central part of the city. Honest Ed's is a popular department store in the area and is visible in the background of many shots. There really is a Pizza Pizza restaurant across the street (though the interiors are different than seen in the film). Lee's Palace is a popular live music venue and it is located about two and half blocks east of Honest Ed's. Casa Loma is an actual castle located about three kilometers (about two miles) north of both landmarks and can quickly accessed by either subway or bus. There really is a steep staircase that must be climbed to reach Casa Loma from the south. The Annex is also home to The Bloor Cinema, a repertory cinema where Edgar Wright hosted screenings during production of the film. The school used in the film is St. Michael's College School, located at Bathurst St. and St. Clair Avenue West. Sometimes, but rarely in the amount seen in the film. However, it's not uncommon for that level of snow to be present during the winter.
